News Release - Unleashing Talents Across Europe (ARTnGO)NEWS RELEASE
18th September 2009

Unleashing Talents Across Europe

A new project, ARTnGO, launched in Lille, France in September 2009 with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union, will give 350 young artists and professional in the creative industries across ten European Countries an opportunity to develop their skills, share their artistic and entrepreneurial experiences.

Countries participating include the UK, Italy, Germany, Hungary, France, Belgium, Greece, Romania, Spain and the Netherlands. The project is led by Sziget Kulturalis, the company behind the Sziget Festival, held annually in August in Budapest, and which is considered one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. Within Roots&Routes, Hungary carries out an increasing role of “bridge-builder” towards Eastern Europe, and one of the project’s main focus lies on the cultural dialogue between Eastern and Western Europe following the expansion of the European Community towards East.

ARTnGO was developed through a consultation with Roots&Routes International, young talents and professional in the dance, media and music sectors. Marina Bistolfi, one of the Directors explains: “While designing the project proposal, we were led by the wish and will to develop aspects of transnational co-production that had not been addressed by the previous projects. ARTnGO will develop into sustainable productions, and present and promote in mainstream festivals, a cluster of R&R best practice creative works representing the richness of cultural diversities within the R&R ‘family’. These works will be based on original proposals coming from some of the young talents who have worked together in previous R&R projects and have shown to be most motivated and active, and who now become authors, directors and managers of their work.”

ABi Associates (http://www.abi.co.uk), the UK Partner for ARTnGO has been partnering Roots&Routes in a number of projects during the past three years. It is currently delivering activities for young UK talents who are keen to develop their technical, creative, entrepreneurial and teaching skills through one to ones with specialists, group participations, showcasing opportunities and European residencies.

Saira Awan, founder of Sai Photography (http://www.saiphotography.com) and a participant said “I have travelled to Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and France through Roots&Routes and it has not only allowed my growth personally but also professionally. Being able to communicate, interactive, work with and share my talent on a European level has been amazing. I am excited by the ARTnGO initiative.”

Tanisjah Matthews, who has received an award from the UK Government for making a music video in a bid to stop troubled youngsters using knives, said that “Roots&Routes has enabled me to forged life long friendships with young artists in several European countries. We share our experiences, collaborate and support each others to develop our creativity and projects for young people across Europe.”

The meeting in Lille was attended by talents, beneficiaries, project Directors and Co-ordinators who were all treated with a fabulous show designed and performed by young French talents as part of the five years celebration of R&R / ARTnGO Partner, Association RIF (http://www.rif-asso.fr)
